I was feeling like I needed to be doing videos as another form of helping couples strengthen their marriage because we all learn in different ways.I think this is also a great opportunity for my personality to come out a little more, which can help our relationship feel more personable :) I’m all about relating to others because it allows you to better understand them and trust them. So I hope my videos can help you further understand me, where I’m coming from, and trust my expertise. For my first video, I wanted to do something fun but also enlightening! At our wedding reception three years ago, we had our guests write down marriage advice to us on little cards that we have held onto all this time. I went through those cards, pondered over them, and found that some of the advice we were told wasn’t good advice! So I’m sharing these pieces of advice and WHY I believe they don’t work!

This video is helpful for everyone: 1) It gets you thinking about the advice that has worked for your marriage.  2) It gets us thinking about the advice we give to others, which is important because the advice received from friends and family can be the most influential.

Wanna share the funny or not-so-good marriage advice you were given? Please comment below, we would all love to hear it! Make sure to check out the next blog post where I share the GOOD advice we were given on our wedding day and WHY I think it was so good :)

  • Haha, I remember some of the people who gave the advice! I might have even written the one that said it’s Ok to go to sleep without resolving an argument. Often if you can get some rest and wake up refreshed, you will have a better perspective. And I also agree with Grandma Dymock’s suggestion to have some rainy day savings! When bad things happen — a car accident, a root canal, furnace going out — it doesn’t hurt quite as bad if you have funds set aside that you can take care of it.

  • I agree too! “Fight naked” and “never go to sleep angry” are the absolute worst pieces of advice ever!

    • haha I’m so glad someone else agreed! I really didn’t want to offend people (mostly naive engaged couples) who have given this advice, but for reals, I don’t get it :)

  • Totally agree about “sleep on it” after an argument! Sometimes we are both cranky because we’re tired etc, and staying up later to talk it out would be a horrible idea haha.
